Grossmont High School quarterback Anthony Lawrence has broken the CIF San Diego section career passing yards record in a game at West Hills High School Friday evening.
Lawrence needed 48 yards to break the record and surpassed the record with 20 of 25 passing attempts, 280 yards and five touchdowns Friday in a 48-6 win in Santee Friday in the Prep Pigskin Report's East County Game of the Week.
Lawrence finished the season with 2,720 yards and surpassed the career passing yards record set in 2006. Lawrence has thrown for more than 8,500 yards in three years at the helm at Grossmont and surpassed the record by 230 yards.
Five touchdowns Friday leaves Lawrence two touchdowns shy of the county career touchdown record of 92 touchdowns.
“It’s unbelievable,” Lawrence said of the record. “It’s awesome to get the record. I feel really privileged.
“Football is everything to me. It’s my passion. Without football, I won’t be the person I am today.”Of beating the CIF record, Grossmont coach Tom Karlo said, “In San Diego County, I don’t think there’s a better quarterback out there.”
“He controls the game. We don’t tell him to take it here and go, so for him to thrive in a system that it’s all on his shoulders makes it sweeter.
Karlo said his team dominated the game in kicking, defense and offense .

“We wanted to make the statement that we are legitimate leaders in Division 1,” he said, “We wanted to finish strong.”
Grossmont touchdowns were scored by J.T. Barnes, Christian Brooks, Alijah Avant and D.J. Hill.
The Hillers were up 21-0 at the half, and blanked the Wolf Pack until the fourth quarter when Klan Ahmadian ran in a touchdown.
