Making History: Grossmont QB May Break All-Time Passing Yards Record Friday

Anthony Lawrence holds every notable record for a quarterback in Grossmont High School history, but by the numbers, he may be one of the best players in CIF-San Diego section history.

With 632 passes completed, Lawrence has already broken the county record of 584 completed passes in a career.

Lawrence currently leads all quarterbacks in San Diego County with 2,440 in total passing yards, and has thrown for more than 8,000 yards over three years at the helm for the Foothillers, according to the Grossmont athletics department.

Now he is 48 yards shy of the section career passing yards record, a feat he is expected to surpass in the final game of the season Friday versus West Hills High School. The current record was set in 2006 by David Ortega of Palo Verde High School.

He is also within striking distance of career touchdown passes, 7 shy of the 92 touchdown record set in 2000 by Lance Webb of Midway Baptist High School.
