La Mesa Surf Photographer Helps Launch New Photo Social Network

Oceanic photographer Chris Mayer, born and raised in La Mesa, is one of six nationally-acclaimed photography experts selected to launch a new social media community, Binteo.com.

The Binteo platform is designed to connect hobbyists and like-minded individuals with field experts in categories including photography, cooking, gardening and autism. 

Mayer’s role as a photography expert is instrumental in the beta launch, according to Binteo.com.  In only a few days following the launch, his  detailed insight into his personal technique has gained him a following on the site that are able to personally connect with Mayer through the website and seek his advice for improving their photography skills. Many of his photos on the site feature scenes around San Diego.

Here's an example of the advice he gives on the new platform: 

"Perception is everything on this image. You can perceive how big and massive this wave because of many reasons. For example the size of the people in comparison to the actual wave. Also, the size of the white-wash in the foreground in comparison to the size of the white wash at the impact zone of where the wave that Ian is riding. I wanted the image to tell how big this wave was...to do that I had to compose it so that you can perceive how big it is. When you are photographing you need to photograph with intent and make it show through your images."
