The Flowers are Back - and We're not Talking About the Flower Fields of Carlsbad!

Flowers are back in the La Mesa Village planters, next up: will City Council vote April 10th to allow parking meter money be used for street sweeping & sidewalk powerwashing?

After three years of being basins filled with dry dirt, litter and cigarette butts, our Village planters are back doing what they do best – housing pretty plants and flowers!

The La Mesa Village Merchants Association, in honor of La Mesa’s Centennial and with healthier coffers, re-hired William Solis to plant and maintain flowering succulents.

If the City Council, next Tuesday, April 10th, votes to accept the La Mesa Community Parking Commission’s recommendation to allow parking meter money be used for quarterly sidewalk power washing and an additional weekly street sweeping, we will have a fresh, clean and pretty La Mesa Village for our Centennial!

For other public improvements related to the maintenance and enhancement of facilities within the parking districts as determined appropriate by the City Council.

Key words: improvements, maintenance and enhancement.

There is no question that sweeping trash from our streets and scrubbing stains and ground-in gum from our sidewalks are maintenance that will improve and enhance Downtown La Mesa.

* During lunch, Tues., Feb 14th, I visited businesses on La Mesa Boulevard seeking support for this issue. If a merchant was busy with customers, I moved on. Of the business owners and managers I met with, the support was unanimous except for one business owner who felt the City should be doing the power washing and extra street sweeping as baseline services.
