The county of San Diego and San Diego Gas & Electric kicked off their annual Cool Zones program with a safety fair Thursday afternoon at the La Mesa Adult Enrichment Center. The program offers public places where seniors and others can find air conditioning to beat the summer heat.
Locations in La Mesa include:
- Christian Science Reading Room (8370 La Mesa Blvd)
- La Mesa Adult Enrichment Center (8450 La Mesa Blvd)
- La Mesa Library (8074 Allison Ave)
More than 100 Cool Zones are available around the region, most of them are at libraries, senior centers and recreation centers.

Locations can be found online at www.coolzones.org, a page that includes a tool that can display the closest site to a particular address.
Sites can also be found by calling (800) 510-2020, ext. 6. The service runs through Oct. 15.
