Toddler Tried to Awaken Mother Before Drownings at La Mesa Home

The boy died along with his little sister and drugs were later discovered at the home.

A Medical Examiner's Office report released by authorities show that a toddler who later drowned tried to awaken his mother before the May tragedy that also killed his sister.

NBCSanDiego.com notes that the document quotes San Diego County Sheriff's Department investigators who say Tassie Behrens was briefly awakened by her son, 2, who was wondering where his 16-month-old sister was.

The boy, Jason Bradford, and girl, Harley Bradford, were later found by their mother face down in a backyard pool on Sunset Avenue.

Authorities believe Behrens lied to them about the accident in order to divert them from marijuana that was growing on the property.

The children's deaths have been labeled accidental, but investigators, NBC San Diego said, are awaiting the release of the full autopsy reports to determine if anyone will face charges.
