La Mesa Police Chief Wants Law to Keep Panhandlers From Medians

Senate Bill 604 aims to make streets safer by making it illegal for people to loiter at a center median within 300 feet of an intersection with a traffic light.

La Mesa Police Department Chief Ed Aceves recently told the La Mesa City Council that he's in favor of a bill making its way through the California legislature that would make it easier for police to crackdown on panhandling at city intersections.

Senate Bill 604 aims to make streets safer by making it illegal for people to loiter at a center median within 300 feet of an intersection with a traffic light. The law currently disallows sales or panhandling within 500 feet of a freeway offramp.

According to 10News, Aceves submitted the bill and he will be talking with the news station about the proposed law in an upcoming interview.
