A man wearing a Halloween mask of a bloody clown face threatened a clerk with a handgun and pepper spray while robbing a 7-Eleven in La Mesa Thursday.
The robbery at 5746 Amaya Drive was reported at 4:33 a.m., according to the La Mesa Police Department.
The robber took a small amount of cash, cigarettes and lottery tickets before fleeing on foot, La Mesa police Lt. Matt Nicholass said.

He carried a handgun and pepper spray, both of which he pointed at a clerk while ordering the victim to open a cash register and get on the ground, the lieutenant said.
Police described the robber as a slender, roughly 5-foot-8 white man in his early to mid-30s, last seen wearing the Halloween mask, blue sweatshirt and blue jeans.
