Dating to 1885, the area's water provider adopted the name Helix Irrigation District in 1956 and occupied a building…More in La Mesa's civic center in 1957. The state Legislature in 1973 approved a change that made Helix Water District possible. And in January 1998, the district moved to its current ofices on University Avenue.</p> <p>Groundbreaking took place that same year for  the Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College.</p>
