Grossmont Union High School District

With 11 high schools, the district covers 465 square miles and includes three charter schools (among them HelixMore Charter High School in La Mesa), one continuation high school and two alternative education sites. More than 20,000 students attend district schools.</p> <p>Headquartered is in the Old Main building—the original home of Grossmont High School—the administrative offices adjoin the current Grossmont High School. The district calls itself the largest employer in East San Diego County. And, in recent years, more than 70 percent of  its graduates have gone on to community colleges or a four-year college/university.</p> <p>The district's Home Choice program makes it possible for parents to home-school their high-school-aged children. The district also has a coordinator for homeless and foster youth, as well as an adult school in El Cajon that is open to those 18 years old and older.</p>

Grossmont High School

Despite turning 90 in late September 2010, the school that is one-third in La Mesa and two-thirds in El Cajon hasMore many elements of newness, including a Science Building erected with Proposition H funds overlooking an all-weather track and artificial-grass football field. It was named a California Distinguished School in 2008, and its alumni include three astronauts, several major league baseball players and an Olympic javelin thrower.</p> <p>In sports, Grossmont's strongest tradition is in baseball —  its varsity team having won section titles four straight years (2005-2008).  In the arts, the Red Robe Choir is renowned and has traveled around the world. Its Royal Blue Regiment marching band has performed in major parades.</p> <p>The school has a PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization) and operates under the umbrella of the Grossmont High School Education Foundation.</p>

Monte Vista High School

Opened in 1961, Monte Vista High School is serves the Spring Valley community. Its students reside from all over EastMore County, including La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Rancho San Diego, El Cajon and Spring Valley.</p> <p>Monte Vista is a part of the Grossmont Union High School District. It is the home of the Monarchs. The school colors are crimson and gold. The principal is Randy Montesanto.</p>
