Ate there twice: first time shortly after they opened and wasn't overly impressed although I LOVED…Read More the chorizo corn side. Server said the staff was probably eating too much of it so they were losing money on it. Second time was a couple of weeks ago and liked what we had, but they had dropped the corn. Best thing on the menu and they dropped it. Maybe that speaks volumes. Maybe the out-of-towners were just tired of the PBID soap opera.

Ummm, I'm not sure I understand this investigation into "human trafficking." The…Read More "sting" consisted of five governmental agencies and resulted in 2 middle aged prostitution arrests. Sad that the human race thinks we are the only life on earth that matters. Too often this mindset is…Read More the norm. I have seen so many small groves be destroyed by "progress" . Home to many birds, small mammals, insects etc.are sacrificed to give the citizens another Albertsons or Walmart or whatever. Such small patches of area can't even be saved for them? This county , not just La Mesa needs to sit and REALLY THINK about what their actions mean down the road. Some of these birds are territorial and it is devastating to them. If they recover at all... how long will it be before it too will be chopped down?
One light in this development is that as citizens we can put in our suggestions as to what they replace it with. Maybe a rock waterfall or something of that sort would bring back some of the birds.? I pray for them to do what is right or best for everything and everyone.. They get to have a 2nd chance to atone . xoxo

Check out the "relationship" between SDGE and the CPUC. Check out the comparable rates nationally of other power companies and SDGE. We're getting screwed!

" Where CHP plant is concerned, gas turbines have been the obvious choice, but gas…Read More reciprocating engine advances have increasingly made them alternatives, being highly efficient and also providing better flexibility for frequent starting, stopping and load changes. In these modes, gas engine electrical efficiencies are clearly higher, and they also generally produce lower emissions in relation to produced power. Burning NG, they can provide roughly 30% lower fuel costs, it is claimed, than turbines, though actual economy depends on application, heat recovery, and fuel price."

Things are getting goldener in the Golden State!
"Tens of thousands of health care…Read More professionals, union workers and community activists hired as "navigators" to help Americans choose Obamacare options starting Oct. 1 could earn $20 an hour or more, according to new regulations issued Wednesday.
The 63-page rule covering navigators, drawn up by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, also said the government will provide free translators for those not fluent in English -- no matter what their native language is.
...
It is still not clear how many navigators will be required. California, however, provides a hint. It wants 21,000.
That could be an expensive proposition. The proposed rules, now open for public comment, suggest an estimated pay of $20-$48 an hour.
...
Some in Congress are already wary of the navigators. Louisiana Republican Rep. Charles Boustany Jr., chairman of the House Ways and Means Oversight subcommittee, has raised questions about a voter registration provision in the Obamacare application Americans will have to fill out to receive health care, and whether Democratic-leaning activists will influence which party people choose to join."

Did somebody say Kaiser?
"Democratic support for President Obama's healthcare law has dropped…Read More 15 points since November, contributing to a rise in negative attitudes toward the reform, according to a new poll.
Opponents of the Affordable Care Act currently outnumber supporters (42 percent to 36), according to the Kaiser Family Foundation's latest tracking survey. Public opinion has switched back and forth since the law passed in 2010, and in November, support for the law was 4 percent higher than opposition (43 percent to 39).
Kaiser attributed the marked slide in support among Democrats to a "post-presidential election fade." In November, 72 percent of that group expressed support for the law, compared with 57 percent who feel favorably toward it now.
Unaffiliated voters saw a similar but less dramatic decline in support, with 32 percent approving of the healthcare law compared with 37 percent in November."

I am wondering why this comment I made yesterday ws still " pending approval" this…Read More morning.
As much sympathy as I have for the neighbors I don't see how the Council could have made a different decision.
It's a legal entity doing business in a commercially zoned area. Both the property owner and the new tenant are well within their rights. It would set a really bad precedent to do anything else but approve it.
But as I say my sympathy is with the neighborhood and the bad lot they have been cast. All they can do is make sure the area is properly observed and policed so that when something bad does happen it can be nipped in the bud. If the criminal/undesirable community gets the idea people are watching and care about their neighborhood they will stay away.

I'm a longtime lurker of this Patch but today i had to create an account just to say that I can't…Read More believe the level of elitism here. As a life-long resident of East County, I'm thrilled that this type of content is made available here to us on the Patch. Otherwise, since I don't live in Spring Valley, I wouldn't have known about this new Grocery Outlet location. I've had to drive all the way to National City to go to Grocery Outlet in the past. This sure saves on gas money and I'm so appreciative that the editors thought to let us know about it.
F. Dunn, please try to keep in mind that not all of us choose to "avoid" Spring Valley. If comments like yours discourage future reports of happenings in areas that border La Mesa, it will be a detriment to the community and to those who count on the Patch's reporting for local news.
