Retired congressman Duncan L. Hunter spoke at Tuesday’s San Diego launch of a political action committee to promote national security.
Cuts being proposed in the defense budget “will be the greatest tragedy of the Obama administration,” former congressman Duncan L. Hunter said Tuesday in launching a new super PAC and national association dedicated to America’s security and national defense. Hunter, father of the current congressman and former chair of the House Armed Services Committee, made his comments at a press conference overlooking the USS Midway in San Diego, said Fight 4 America. “The cuts will result in 200,000 soldiers and Marines being cut, Navy ships being reduced to the point that China will become dominant in the Western Pacific and leaving American military personnel with inadequate equipment for years to come,” Hunter said, according to a news release. …

Summertime is here which means our favorite fruits are in season. Time to taste the delights of the season.
My husband brought home a fresh pineapple yesterday and it was gone in one day. Everyone in my family loved it and it was so great to see my kids enjoying fresh fruit with comments like, “This is my favorite fruit mom. We should have this every day.” It’s hard for me to think about pineapple without my thoughts going straight to Hawaii and our summer trip before our kids were born. We would go and buy a fresh pineapple in the morning and have it for breakfast. Those were the days! Pineapple has more than great memories; it’s a healthy treat as well. Pineapple is rich in manganese, which is a trace mineral needed for the formation of connective tissue and bones as well as the metabolism of fat and carbohydrates. In addition, pineapple is a …

A Super PAC promoted by former East County Rep. Duncan L. Hunter (father of the current congressman) calls the mission of Fight 4 America keeping “America's defenses strong, ready and able to defend our nation’s interests, and to ensure that the men and women in uniform who defend our country should be the best equipped, trained and supported in the world.” Super PACs can raise unlimited amounts of money to campaign for or against candidates or issues. Fight 4 America is counting on the local defense industry to ante up. But whose interests will it benefit?
How do you know what City Council will discuss this week? Check in here.
Below is a summary of what is due to occur at this week's Council meeting. The La Mesa City Coucil will move to approve a resolution that would ammend the Municpal Code to allow for small-scale breweries and wine makers to operate within appropriate industrial and commercial zones. With the "Week That Was" column, we'll provide a roundup of the most important stories of the week. The end of the week brought a few big stories to the area. We start with the sudden resignation of Grossmont head baseball coach Jim Earley, which was announced Friday. The coach's leaving comes on the heels of one of the worst seasons in the school's history, which saw the Foothillers lose their final 20 games. Another wrinkle to this story is the series of allegations against Earley of misappropriation of funds and other wrongdoings, which were made by the parent of a former star player. The district has …

Yesterday
Sunday's partial solar eclipse had a lot of us looking to the heavens. We, along with other lucky folks in the West and parts of Asia, got a glimpse of the spectacular display, which was the first annular eclipse we could see from US soil in nearly 18 years. If you snapped a photo or shot some video of the rare sight, we want you to share it with us. Show us what the sky looked like from your vantage point, in La Mesa-Mount Helix, wherever you were, by click the box that reads “Upload Photos and Videos.” Feel free to add a caption telling us more about the image, too.

Here's the guy that wrote a book on how we won the Iraq war and helped bankrupt the nation, announcing that they are starting a PAC, i.e. lobbying function, to promote government spending on the private sector to protect us from something that they can't really define. How pathetic!   more ›
