Flag Day, Western Music and Air Show Fly Into East County

May is officially ending but the first weekend of June is kicking off with lots of fun events.

Boogie down to Western music, celebrate La Mesa Flag Day or travel back into time with World War II airplanes.

LA MESA FLAG DAY PARADE

• What's Up: Bring the kids, a camera and lawn chairs to the La Mesa Flag Day Parade. Two concerts will kick off the event and then the parade will march down La Mesa Boulevard and through the village. 
  
• When: 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 1. 
• Where: La Mesa Blvd., La Mesa.

• What's Up: San Diego County Sheriff's Lemon Grove will host Coffee with the Community. Grab a cup of free coffee and bring your questions for  Captain Pete Callewaert and Crime Prevention Specialist Jim Wieboldt. 
• When: 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 1. 
• Where: Civic Center Park 3200 Main St., Lemon Grove.

• What's Up: Relay For Life of Santee will bring awareness about their mission, celebrate cancer Survivors and remember those who have lost their lives to cancer. 
• When: 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 1. 
• Where: Town Center Community Park, 550 Park Center Dr., Santee. 

• What's Up: Air Group One (AG-1), the San Diego Wing of the 
  Commemorative Air Force will host the 18th annual event. Wings Over Gillespie will recognize San Diego's contribution to aviation during World War II. The event will feature vintage aircraft, displays, reenactments, a mock battle and more. 
• When: 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2. 
• Where: Gillespie Field, 1960 Joe Crosson Dr., El Cajon. 
• Price: $20-$60. 

• What's Up: Grab your cowboy hats and boogie over to Cuyamaca College. The third annual Western Music Jubilee will benefit the Olaf Wieghorst Museum’s educational programs for kids. The event will feature western musicians and groups.
• When: 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 1. 
• Where: Cuyamaca College Performing Arts Theater, 900 Rancho San Diego Pkwy., El Cajon. 
• Price: $25-$30.
