6 things to know about the week ahead in La Mesa.

1. The winter holidays are over for schoolchildren. Class is back in session Monday for most schools in San Diego County including for La Mesa-Spring Valley School District and Grossmont Union High School District students.

2. Did you get a tablet or iPad over the holiday season? Learn how to download ebooks from the library at this training session being held at 3 p.m. at the library.

3. Saturday is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. An estimated 20 million men, women and children around the world are victims of human trafficking. You can take a free awareness-training course online.

4. The La Mesa Historical Society will hold a silent film screening in Spring Valley Saturday that focuses on Flying A movies made in Spring Valley and La Mesa in the early 1900s.

5. Jan. 11 is the last designated day to recycle Christmas trees at EDCO's 8184 Commercial St. location in La Mesa.

As long as ornaments and decorations are removed, EDCO customers may also cut their Christmas tree in four-foot-long lengths and place them in their green bin for curbside pickup.

6. Electronic waste recycling hosted by the La Mesa Chamber of Commerce will be accepted at Grossmont Center Saturday and Sunday
