Two Books for 25 Cents? Friends of the Library Plan Monday Madness Sale

Store manager Ives says: "All the money we raise goes directly to the library."

They aren’t Borders, but the Friends of La Mesa Library say everything must go during their Monday Madness book sale. And while you may not be able to read six or seven books a week like bookstore manager and board member Deborah Ives, they’ll have something perfect for when you do have the time.

“Hon, I am 66 years old, so I garden and sell at Kobey’s Swap Meet,” Ives said of her free time. “But reading is my pleasure.”

As a volunteer at the library bookstore, she says she’s often arrived to to find a stack to sort that’s “chest-high, 3 feet wide and 5 feet long.” Whatever isn’t needed for the library collection is given to the bookstore.

“They were all donated from our extremely generous community,” Ives said. “All the money we raise goes directly to the library.”

The sale runs from noon to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, in the bookstore with pricing as low as two books for 25 cents. For more information, call 619-469-2151.
