Photo of the Century Set for Grossmont Center: Public to Pose There Feb. 18

Aerial photograph will capture hundreds of area residents spelling out "100" atop parking garage.

Grossmont Center is planning the photo of the century—at least La Mesa’s—the morning of Saturday, Feb. 18.

The 50-year-old shopping mall is organizing an aerial photo of hundreds of people gathered atop its parking structure and forming the figure 100.
Calling it “Century of Smiles,” the picture is part of the La Mesa Centennial celebration.

“You’ll be the art to create the picture that will spell out 100, as well as a surrounding border of the photograph,” says Grossmont Center. “Everyone is invited to … the photograph. Bring your friends, families and co-workers along to participate in this special and unique kickoff to the La Mesa Centennial yearlong
celebration.”

The first 300 people to arrive get a free T-shirt, the mall says.

Since participants will want to know where they are in the picture, event coordinators encourage bright colored shirts, hats and apparel that will be easily recognized out of the hundreds of people.

Only severe rain would cancel the event, say organizers.

Only certified service animals are allowed
The event is free, and starts at 7 a.m. Refreshments and raffle prize will be given at 8 a.m., and a helicopter fly-over is set for about 8:45 a.m.

Participants will be able to buy the photo online.
