3 Volunteers With La Mesa Connections Honored as 2013 Healthcare Heroes

Three volunteers in the healthcare industry with La Mesa connections were honored as 2013 Healthcare Heroes by the Grossmont Healthcare District at a luncheon Wednesday.

Connie Napierskie Conard, Susan Kaweski, M.D., and Ernest W. Shaw, M.D. were among six volunteers nominated by their peers and recognized for their efforts.

Conard is active with many groups, including the Grossmont Hospital Foundation, and began her volunteer service in the 1960s as a Grossmont High School student, candy striping at Grossmont Hospital.

Dr. Kaweski is a practicing plastic surgeon operating at the Aesthetics Arts Institute of Plastic Surgery in La Mesa and notably works as a volunteer physician for Project Access San Diego.

Dr. Shaw was an original member of the Grossmont Hospital staff when it opened in 1955. He is a Korean War veteran, and has volunteered with the La Mesa Lions Club, Boy Scouts, UCSD Medical Center and much more. He's served on the Grossmont Hospital Foundation board since 1994.

"As a volunteer, Dr. Shaw has made significant contributions to the health and well being of the East County region."
