ALERT: Smart Meter Opt-out Fees May Double - Attend a CPUC Meeting Dec. 18th to Speak Out

Public Participation Hearings on smart meter opt-out fees, which SDG&E would like to double, will be held in December.

SDG&E Customers / CALIF ALERT: Opt-out Fees May Double to $400 a year - Speak Out Against All Opt-out Fees at Local CPUC Meetings in December

This is a red ALERT about local CPUC public participation meetings to be held in December, 2012, concerning opt-out fees. We encourage San Diego Gas & Electric customers in San Diego and Orange Counties to attend the meeting in San Clemente, on Dec. 18th, from 6-8 PM, to speak out against all smart meter opt-out fees, which may soon double for SDG&E, SCE, and So CA Gas customers. If you live elsewhere in CA, go to the nearest meeting.

It is noteworthy that the state of Vermont legislated a free smart meter opt-out, statewide, for all utility customers, this year. The system is working well, according to our reports. We feel that there should be no fees and that these are, in fact, illegal, breaking numerous state and federal discrimination laws and California public utility codes. Click Opening Briefs on Discrimination Laws & Opt-out Fees at CPUC (7/20/2012) for more info.

If you can't do so, we ask that you write the CPUC (address below). We encourage you to bring as many people as possible to these meetings, as your presence does matter and is counted, and can impact CPUC decisions made after meetings are held.
CPUC Sets Public Participation Hearings on Smart Meter Opt-Out Costs

Why would you want an analog meter if your concern is ELF?
Malaprop December 15, 2012 at 12:19 AM
MaryJane: You present items for discussion and then you do not discuss. This seems to be habitual. You never responded to Lerchl's calculations -- something easily verifiable with middle school math. You have yet to comment on Dr. George Carlo's MLM scam that were video recorded, even though you used him as an authority. And we have heard no response to my claims of your other expert, Barrie Trower. Can you tell us how you know that the Wishar cancer cluster, featured in the Resonance film, was caused by the tower? I would like to discuss the things you present, but you seem to make every effort to hide.
Komfort December 15, 2012 at 12:39 AM
Hurts, doesn't it? Since we are hoping for a "discussion" based thread, I would like to know what study of the SDGE smart meters you rely on the most, Mal? This will help my research.
Malaprop December 15, 2012 at 12:54 AM
I have no specific report to suggest. You will notice that I am tearing down bad science in hopes that others will step up with something better -- regardless of the outcome. I welcome your research.
Malaprop December 15, 2012 at 01:00 AM
Komfort: You can look at CCST, EPRI or SDG&E -- it's their responsibility.
Komfort December 15, 2012 at 01:01 AM
Don't you have some study that would show the meters have an output that you can defend during your smack-down?
Malaprop December 15, 2012 at 01:19 AM
No, not necessary. CCST and SDG&E are free to "defend" themselves. They are certainly more knowledgeable than I. If you are suspicious of their results I absolutely encourage you to question those results and bring them to our attention. Science needs to stand up to critical analysis. If you think my "smack-downs" are unjust, feel free to defend George Carlo, Barry Trower, Cindy Sage, David Carpenter, etc. You and others have smacked me down in the past, and we are all the better for it.

just go the emf portal and read. Its enough for me. how much poison you want to ingest everyday is up to you. I figure I should keep it to a minimum considering its everywhere. Control it where you can- thats my motto. I still have a cell phone and take precautions. My home is at as decent as a level of rf as Ill get around here. My granddaughters dance class is 10 times that.
Malaprop December 15, 2012 at 02:35 AM
MaryJane: "just go the emf portal and read. Its enough for me." And what about your "experts," George Carlo and Barry Trower? Do you still stand by them? "I still have a cell phone and take precautions" That's bizarre -- considering you keep parroting the IARC report.
MaryJane December 15, 2012 at 04:38 AM
nothing bizzarre about it. i need it for my work and i use a headset and turn it off most of the time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pcGAv4rTko "http://ThePowerFilm.org - 'Take Back Your Power' is a hard-hitting documentary film which exposes a technocratic agenda of control, and offers solutions for co-creating a better future. Based in BC, the film brings insight from throughout North America, Europe and the world - with expert researchers, insiders, politicians, doctors, and those affected by smart meter radiation. Exposed: 'big brother' corporate-government shennanigans, the real reason for huge energy cost increases, what's behind the health dangers, and more. Very boring and very wrong MaryJane: "No facts?" It's a fact that your experts are self-credentialed loudmouths and MLM promoters (Hirsch, Trower & Carlo)? "Bat Mouthing" Producing video of the fear mongering Carlo hawking an MLM is not bad-mouthing -- it's called EVIDENCE. Presenting Barry Trower's diminished credentials is not bad-mouthing -- it's EVIDENCE. Calling your non sequitur (about power company profits vs. RF shielding devices) stupid is not bad-mouthing -- it's correcting bad logic. How many times have you accused me of being a paid blogger? Where is your evidence?

My review of the PowerFilm trailer. This film is nothing but a junk science infomercial, loaded with plugs for anti-smart meter products. Part 1: Farren Lander has one of those scary-sounding smart meters. As he takes measurement, the film claims: "Safe Limit" 1000 uw/m^2 BC Hydro 23000 uw/m^2 Tested 198000 uw/m^2 No mention is made of the FCC limit which is 30x greater than the unverified measurement presented in the film. FCC 6000000 uw/m^2 (900MHz) This "Safe Limit" seems to be based on the BioInitiative report by Sage Associates, whose principal has an EMF consultancy. Notice the advertisement for Farren Lander's consultancy. Scare mongering with unsupported thresholds is good for business. The lower the threshold, the more money spent on RF shielding. How many people are connived into wasting their hard-earned money for this consultant's services?
Malaprop December 15, 2012 at 09:05 PM
PowerFilm Trailer Part 2: The trailer shows another person advertising Meter Locks for $25. Again, scare mongering to promote business. Several anti-smart meter websites are advertised and the film solicits contributions at its end. False prophecy makes much use of anecdotal evidence and this film is no exception. "I started feeling sick..., I got a rash..., I have headaches..." Yes, people get those without having smart meters. So how does one substantiate the implicit claims that the smart meters caused this? Then we have the family physician telling us how she does not want "these waves bombarded into my home, at my children" -- right before the advertisement for EMF consulting. The most bizarre statement comes from the former premiere -- "they will even know what you are cooking." Huh?
Malaprop December 15, 2012 at 09:15 PM
The PowerFilm Trailer Part 3: I like the picture of Ghandi at the end of the trailer. This from a producer who appeared on a talk show with a Holocaust denier. Here is an excerpt from the Holocaust Denier's 2012 schedule: "Monday, 2/27: Dr. Anthony Santelli, has taught economics and finance talks about his article What is Usury? published in Culture Wars" "Tuesday, 2/28: Josh del Sol talks about smart meters." "Wednesday, 2/29: Zion Crime Factory" "Thursday, 3/1: Peter Myers, Israel Nukes gives the lie to Chomsky depiction of Israel" "Friday, 3/2: Deanna talks about the holocaust" What a classy fellow this Josh Del Sol is.

no one will fall for this pathetic attempt to minimize the billions the electric and telephone companies are making. LOL
MaryJane December 16, 2012 at 03:35 AM
Another INTERPHONE study says increased risk of brain tumors with high radio frequency exposure. "The long-awaited Cardis study, published January 2, 2012 in Occupational and Environmental Medicine (available online since June 2011), concludes that there is an increased risk of glioma (a type of brain tumor) in long-term mobile phone users with high RF (radio frequency) exposure and a lower risk for meningioma (a tumor of the membrane surrounding the brain)." http://www.magdahavas.com/another-interphone-study-says-increased-risk-of-brain-tumors-with-high-radio-frequency-exposure/

"Zerox machine" in the sense ive seen you repeat yourself over and over and again on different articles- same old stuff.
Malaprop December 16, 2012 at 04:00 PM
MaryJane: "no one will fall for this pathetic attempt to minimize the billions the electric and telephone companies are making. LOL" This is another one of your asinine non sequiturs. You have some serious intellectual deficiency. First, nobody, not me for sure, denies that the utilities and telecoms make massive profits nor that their CEOs are lavishly compensated. Please find anything I've posted that does. I'm very much in favor of profitable companies (not so much over-compensated CEOs) and I'm sure that many people here have retirement accounts or funded pensions that benefit from growth in telecom stocks. Second, what does this have to do my assertion of amoral behavior on the part of the people in the film who are clearly self interested and of activists in general who think nothing of appearing on a Holocaust denier's talk show? You find ever inventive ways to demonstrate your utter lack of education.
MaryJane December 18, 2012 at 02:13 AM
"asinine non sequiturs" "serious intellectual deficiency." "utter lack of education." more bullying .

another study of thousands... they just keep coming out. http://www.scialert.net/qredirect.php?doi=ijzr.2008.230.233&linkid=pdf Effects of Electromagnetic Fields of Cellular Phone on Cortisol and Testosterone Hormones Rate in Syrian Hamsters There was no significant difference of testosterone and cortisol serum levels between the control group and the group exposed for 10 days. However, compared to the control group the testosterone and cortisol levels increased in the group exposed for 50 days. The authors conclude that long-term (50 days) exposure to cellular phones could impair endocrine homeostasis.

The meeting was exceptionally well-attended. Many speakers (about 45) passionately described serious illnesses and other objections to fees and smart meters - such as privacy concerns, the gathering and selling of personal data (concerning habits in the home and more), smart meter fires, hacking of data and use of smart meter information by thieves, before the impassive CPUC Administrative Law Judge Amy Yip- Kikugawa. Speakers were only given 2 minutes each and the meeting was cut off early without any apparent good reason, to the objections of the audience, after 1 1/2 hours. CEP audiotaped it and took some pics, offered in an uncensored pair of YouTubes. Part 1 of 2 http://youtu.be/bO2ulWvDdg4 Part 2 of 2 http://youtu.be/JmgOMICt01I

Would you voluntarily financially support the following: Giving away for free our public lands to the likes of Goldman Sachs and the Carlyle Group for energy sprawl. The destruction of sacred Indian lands, the destruction of endangered species. Being coerced into purchasing a product from a seller you don't want to buy from. Certainly not, then go off-grid.
Chris February 02, 2013 at 04:26 AM
I don't have a smart meter but I do hear the constant buzzing noise all the time. Even if I go "off-grid" the utility still uses my property to transmit through. Thus, being off-grid doesn't solve the problem.
