La Mesa Police Department to Host Youth Leadership Camp Next Week

The La Mesa Police Department made the following announcement on Thursday, July 5:

The La Mesa Police Department will be hosting the first La Mesa Police Youth Leadership Camp from July 9-12, 2012.  The purpose of the Youth Leadership Camp is to provide leadership training and life-enhancing skills, personal development training, academic enrichment, team building, and to teach responsibility to one’s family and community. 

Participants will engage in classroom instruction, discussions, and scenarios; athletic and academic challenges (team and individual); field trips to volunteer community service work; and other activities.  

Participants will be challenged physically and mentally, as they develop the concepts of becoming a successful leader.  It is hoped that the Youth Leadership Camp will have a meaningful impact on the participants’ character and leadership development, as well as contribute to their success in life.

The camp will be facilitated and supervised by La Mesa police officers, civilian staff, and management. 

Carl Burger Dodge, the San Diego Chargers, La Mesa Rotary, and EDCO Disposal collectively contributed $2,700 dollars to make the leadership camp possible.  Twenty-four students ages 15-18, from various local high schools have signed up for the leadership camp, which is full. 

There will be a graduation dinner ceremony for students and donors on Thursday night, July 12, at 6 pm. at the La Mesa Police Department.
