Grossmont, Cuyamaca Colleges Offering Summer Youth Basketball Camps

The camps will be led by the colleges' head men's and women's basketball coaches.

The Grossmont-Cuyamaca College District made the following announcement on Monday, June 18:

Grossmont and Cuyamaca colleges are hosting youth basketball camps this summer at their gymnasiums. The camps, each led by the coaches of the college basketball teams, emphasize the fundamentals in a positive and enthusiastic way, stressing teamwork, sportsmanship, communication, goal-setting and more.

 At Grossmont College, women’s basketball coach Karen Caires heads CAMP (Caring About Motivating People) for girls and boys in the first through eighth grades from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 25-28, and men’s basketball coach Doug Weber will offer his annual youth camp for boys and girls in the third to ninth grades from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 6-9.

The cost to attend CAMP is $150 per child; for Weber’s camp, $75. All kids receive a T-shirt, contest prizes and giveaways. Players for CAMP should bring their own lunch and water bottle.  At Cuyamaca College, head basketball coach Rob Wotjkowski will direct Camp 1 for seventh- to ninth-graders July 9-12; Camp 2 for fourth- to sixth-graders from July 16-19; and Camp 3, also for fourth- to sixth-graders from Aug. 6-9. Each camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $79, which includes a T-shirt and evaluation. Areas covered include ball-handling, dribbling moves, shooting drills, three-on-three competition, team games and shooting games.
