The Hot Read: Monte Vista traveled to Helix Charter High School for a non-league volleyball showdown on Tuesday. The Scotties controlled possession, and passed the ball well, leading to a three sets to none win. To their credit, the Monarchs improved each set, but ultimately were downed 25-13, 25-16, 25-19.
Patch's MVP: Helix outside hitter William Mildenhall, who led the Scotties with 12 kills, including one that won the match.
Helix Leaders: William Mildenhall (12 kills), Gary Linson (7 kills), Marcus Norris (6 kills), Alex Salazar (3 kills), Jose Fernando (3 kills).
Quotable I: Helix coach Linda Brown on her team's performance: "We could have played better, but actually we played okay. Our passing was exceptional. The most important thing now is to not get big heads right now. Our goal is to get better and take the league, and we can always improve."
Quotable II: "Marlon [Chavarin] did really well passing today," said Mildenhall. "It's something we need to do every day because we can pretty much do everything well. Usually, when we get a good pass, we score. But one way we can improve is serving, for sure. We miss a lot of serves."
Team Records: Monte Vista drops to 1-9 on the year. Helix improves to 4-1.
