Sports Writers Predict Helix Win Over Grossmont in Crucial Fight for Musket

Expect fireworks at the Grossmont-Helix game at 7 p.m. Friday at Grossmont, said U-T San Diego sports writer Don Norcross.

"If I could go to one game Friday night it would be… Helix at Grossmont," Norcross said in a recent article.

A lot is on the line: Grossmont-Hills league championship, the musket rivalry that is more than 60 years old, bragging rights and maybe even a little bit of history.

Grossmont quarterback Anthony Lawrence leads all quarterbacks in passing yardage this year and could surpass some CIF San Diego section records Friday or in the final game of the season next week, Norcross said.

History is on the side of the Highlanders: Helix (6-2) has beat Grossmont (7-1) in 28 of the last 29 games, and Norcross predicts a close game but a Helix win.

Eastcountysports.com predicts a close game but a 35-28 Helix win.

Both teams have been ranked among the top 20 teams in the CIF-San Diego Media Poll.
