La Mesa Runner Finishes in Top 50 in Rock 'n' Roll Marathon

200 La Mesans were part of the nearly 25,000 runners in the Rock'n' Roll Marathon and half marathon in San Diego on Sunday, with one local runner coming in the top 50 overall.

David Fellows, 42, placed 41 overall, with a time of 2:57:01  The highest placing local in the female race was Chris Hart, 49, who placed 1034 overall, with a time of 3:47:55.

Chuck Bailey, 50, was the La Mesan that placed highest in the half marathon, 131 overall, with a time of 1:24:24.

53 La Mesans completed the marathon and 147 ran the half marathon.

The big buzz around the half marathon this year was the winner, Bernard Koech, who ran the fastest half marathon ever recorded on American soil, in 58:41.

Kenyan Simon Njoroge won the men’s division of the marathon in 2:15:00 and Natalia Sergeeva took the women’s race, with a time of 2:35:05.
