Helix Grad Marcus Carroll to Take Over Monterey Track Team

The San Diego Mesa College assistant coach will take over the track program at Monterey Peninsula College.

Former Helix High prep Marcus Carroll will be the new track coach at Monterey Peninsula College, according to MontereyHerald.com.

The coach will leave the region, where he was born and raised, for the new post. He served as an assistant for four years at  San Diego Mesa College, where he was part of two conference championships.

According to his bio on Mesa College's web site, when he competed for Cal State Los Angeles he was a finalist in the NCAA national championships in the long and triple jumps and all-conference in the long jump, triple jump, 100m, 4x100m and 4x400m relay.

He was also a high school state champion in the 4x100m relay and finalist in the long jump.

He holds a BA in communications. Carroll shared the football field at Helix with NFL pros Reggie Bush and Alex Smith, the report said.
