Helix Boys Volleyball Coach Laying Groundwork with Fundamental Play

Linda Brown, who also coaches the girls volleyball team, said "boys just wanna crush it," but that they are buying in to her approach.

For Linda Brown, now in her second-year as head coach of the boys basketball team at Helix Charter High School, the differences between teen boys and girls can be understood by how they play volleyball.

"Boys just wanna crush the ball," she said in a recent interview with Patch. "Girls have more of an understanding of passing and serving, and playing with fundamentals."

Brown, a Salinas, Calif. native, is also the head coach of the girls team, where she has held the post for five years. She has played volleyball since she was eight years old, and hopes to pass on her years of experience to the boys.
