Helix and Grossmont Football to Battle for the Musket, League Title Friday

La Mesa's two high schools will face off at 7 p.m. Friday in a high stakes game at Grossmont High School in a rivalry that dates back to the 1950s.

Winner gets hometown bragging rights, the musket that is given to the winner of the game that has been played since Helix opened in 1951 and perhaps the Grossmont-Hills league title.

After starting the season ranked among the best teams in San Diego County, Grossmont (7-1) and Helix (6-2) are both a perfect 3-0 and tied for first place in the Grossmont-Hills league.

With 2,096 passing yards this season, Grossmont's Anthony Lawrence leads all quarterbacks in San Diego County in passing yards.
