Grossmont Wins Play-In Game for CIF Softball Berth

The Foothillers blank San Pasqual and will visit Torrey Pines in Friday's Division I first round.

Rachel Stalford pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out 11 as the Grossmont High softball team earned a berth in the San Diego Section Division I playoffs with a 6-0 win over San Pasqual on Wednesday.

The Foothillers (20-9-1) now travel to Torrey Pines High for a 3:30 p.m. game on Friday. The Falcons are 21-9-1. The teams met at the Cougar Classic in Escondido on March 12, with the Falcons winning 5-1.

Stalford received some early support as Grossmont scored one run in the first and two in the second before blowing the game open with a three-run fifth inning. The Foothillers had 12 total hits.

The double-elimination CIF softball tournament runs through May 28.
