Grossmont QB Anthony Lawrence Invited to Prestigious 'Elite 11' Camp

Lawrence threw for 3,424 yards and 36 TDs during his junior year, earning All-CIF San Diego First Team honors.

Grossmont High School quarterback Anthony Lawrence, a junior, has been invited to participate in the prestigious Elite 11 QB Camp, which will be held May 17, in San Francisco.

As the quarterback of an often explosive offense under first year coach Tom Karlo, Lawrence helped the Foothillers amass a 9-3 record in 2012, a three-win improvement from the previous season.

Lawrence, the 6'1", 190-lb. gunslinger, threw for 3,424 yards and 36 touchdowns for Grossmont last year. He earned First Team All-CIF San Diego Section honors, as well as the Offensive Player of the Year award from East County Sports.

“When I received the email, I was stoked, just happy out of my mind,” Lawrence told U-T San Diego. “I get the opportunity to compete against some of the best quarterbacks around the nation.”

The camp is designed to test dozens of the nation's best young quarterbacks in a series of workouts, drills, and competitions.

Lawrence is hoping to earn a spot in the Final Elite 11 Quarterback Campetition, a five-day event which takes the best of the best, and helps the participants learn how to improve their games, on and off the field.

“It’s a chance for me to see what other quarterbacks do better than me and what things I can incorporate into my game,” Lawrence told the paper. “I’m going to soak up as much information, advice and knowledge as I can out there to improve.”

Notable alumni of the Elite 11 QB camp include former NFL No. 1 overall picks Matthew Stafford and JaMarcus Russell, first round picks Vince Young, Matt Leinart, Josh Freeman, and Mark Sanchez.
