Grossmont Meets Helix in Season’s First League Tennis Contest

Both teams train at Highlanders' courts because Grossmont facility is under renovation.

In their first league match of the season, crosstown rivals Helix Charter High School and Grossmont High met at Helix in boys tennis.  Under sunny skies atop dry courts, singles and doubles contests took place. Hillers coach Nathan Welden said that he recognizes the strength of the Steele Canyon tennis program, and is hoping to top the rest of the league. His team of 24 includes two seniors in varsity, he said. Due to renovation of the courts at Grossmont, both the Highlanders and Foothillers train at Helix.  Next up for Grossmont is travel Thursday to top-ranked Steele Canyon.  The same day, Helix coached by J. Diaz hosts West Hills High.
