Grossmont Falls Just Short in CIF Playoffs for Boys Water Polo

Foothillers mount late comeback against Granite Hills High School, but lose in second round of CIF playoffs at La Jolla High School.

Despite an exciting comeback in the last two minutes, Grossmont High School's boys water polo team fell to Granite Hills High School in the CIF-San Diego quarterfinals at La Jolla High School.

Saturday afternoon's match saw the Foothillers score twice in the last minutes, going from 8-5 to 8-7—the final score. They had qualified for the quarterfinals after beating Patrick Henry High School in the first round 17-14 on Thursday.

Charlie Smith and Daniel Dossegger led Hiller scoring Saturday with two goals each. Getting one goal each for Grossmont were Luke Chapman, Tanner Harvey and Matt Sorenson.

Ryan Reed blocked eight goals for the Hillers and had three steals. Also with three steals were David Hazlebeck, Harvey and Dossegger. Two steals were credited to Grossmont's Ryan Mussey and Sorenson, with one each to Chapman and Grey Owen.

Hazlebeck had three blocks for the Hillers and Chapman two as Grossmont High finished the season with records of 16-12 and 8-1 in league.
