Greg Louganis To Be Inducted Into CA Sports Hall of Fame

The El Cajon native, who trained at the La Mesa Municipal Pool growing up, will be honored along with fellow Olympian Florence Griffith Joyner, San Diego Padres legend Tony Gwynn, four-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Joe Montana, among others.

Olympic gold medal diver Greg Louganis, who grew up learning to dive at the La Mesa Municipal Pool, will be one of six California sports legends inducted into the California Sports Hall of Fame next month.

The El Cajon native, who attended Santana and Valhalla high schools, will be honored along with fellow Olympian Florence Griffith Joyner, San Diego Padres legend Tony Gwynn, four-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Joe Montana, Los Angeles Kings winger Luc Robitaille, and former Rams and USC football coach John Robinson.

The 7th annual Induction Ceremony will Sunday, June 9th 5 p.m., at the Ontario Convention Center in Ontario, CA. Many former inductees and sports celebrities have been invited to attend, meet and greet guests and participate in an auction featuring rare sports memorabilia. Proceeds will benefit underprivileged youth.

“We are proud to continue our tradition of recognizing incredible Californians who have made outstanding contributions at the highest level in sports,” said Christian Okoye, founder, California Sports Hall of Fame. “The Class of 2013 truly embodies what sports is all about and we are excited to honor them during this special evening, which will also benefit at-risk youth.”

The Class of 2013 was selected by a special committee, comprised of past California Sports Hall of Fame inductees and celebrity athletes, for their outstanding contributions to the world of sports in California and/or for their ties to the state.

Many former inductees will be in attendance to meet and greet guests and welcome the Class of 2013.

Past inductees that have been invited include California sports celebrities
such as Ken Norton, Dick Vermeil, David “Deacon” Jones, Eric Dickerson, Tommy Lasorda, Dan Fouts, Dave Winfield, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Mike Powell, Tom Flores, Marcus Allen, Cheryl Miller, Karch Kiraly and many more.
