Gallery: Silver Strand Half Marathon, 5K

Seventy-one La Mesans and 18 people from Spring Valley were among the thousands of people took part in the annual half marathon from Coronado to IB.

On a clear, cool Sunday morning, near 3,400 people skated, rode and ran from Coronado to Imperial Beach for the Silver Strand Half Marathon & 5K.

Paricipants in the 13.1-mile race made their way from Sunset Park in Coronado, down the Silver Strand to Imperial Beach's Pier Plaza.

The race included 71 people from La Mesa, and 18 people from Spring Valley. The top local finisher was Miguel Ayala, 30, from Spring Valley, who came in 32nd overall with a time of 1:26:19. He was followed by the top female finisher from Spring Valley – Bann Attiq, who ran the race in 1:36:30. One of the youngest Andrew Sanchez (16) and one of the oldest Gary Jalaty (67) racers also hailed from Spring Valley.

The top La Mesa finisher was Jeremy White, 31, who ran it in 1:36:25. He was followed closely by Michael Armistead, 43, who ran 1:36:40. The top female finishers from La Mesa were Melinda Green, 32 (1:38:13), and Suzanne Devlin, 25 (1:42:54).

Andrew Falkiewicz of Coronado had the best overall time in the half marathon, finishing in 1:14:27.
