Hike with a Ranger, Celebrate EARTH DAY!

Celebrate Earth Day 2012 by exploring your neighborhood National Wildlife Refuge (NWR)- the San Diego NWR in Rancho San Diego!  Join a US Fish & Wildlife Service Ranger and other staff on a nature hike from 9:00am-11:00am, discovering the native plants and birds that are protected on the refuge.

Also from 9:00am-2:00pm, there will be opportunities to participate in earth day and nature-related activities at the start of the trail head with other FWS staff.  There will be birding activities, and art projects!

The trail head and parking for this hiking area of the Refuge is located off HWY 94 (Campo Rd.), at the "old steel bridge" where Campo and Singer Lane intersect.  If parking gets full, additional parking is located across the street at the McGrath Family YMCA, in the Rancho San Diego Towne Center.  Be sure to use the crosswalk to cross the street.

While leashed dogs are permitted, they are discouraged on the Refuge, because they may frighten away the birds we are seeking to find.  It is prime nesting season for the birds, and we sure want everyone to get their best chance at seeing/hearing them!

Heavy rain at 7:30am cancels.  Light rain/drizzle= we're still having a hike!

Wear sturdy hiking shoes, bring water, and binoculars/camera if you have them.  This hike is mild and easy.
