Easy Wins for Grossmont, Helix Football in First Round of Playoffs

After making quick work of teams in the first round of the playoffs, Grossmont and Helix football will play away games next week and continue to fight for section and Division I championships.

Both the Grossmont Foothillers and Helix Highlanders took relatively easy wins at home Friday evening in first round playoff action for two of San Diego's top ranked teams.

#5 seed Grossmont beat Otay Ranch 35-0 and will face the #4 seed Carlsbad Lancers at Carlsbad High School at 7 p.m. Nov. 21 in quarterfinal play.

On a 15-yard pass to Hunter Reiner in the 3rd quarter, Grossmont quarterback Anthony Lawrence surpassed the CIF-San Diego section career touchdown record. 

Last week he surpassed the career yardage record with more than 8,000 yards. Earlier this season he broke the section total competitions record as well.

Helix won in a 41-6 rout of La Costa Canyon Friday.

The Highlanders racked up more than 400 total yards and will play another high powered offense at Mission Hills High School in the open playoffs semifinals.

#1 seed Mission Hills beat Steele Canyon 56-35.
