Athlete of the Week: Derek Rustich, Grossmont Third Baseman
Rustich, a senior, has signed a letter of intent to play baseball for Texas Tech University in the fall.
For the Grossmont baseball team, they knew that they did not want a repeat of their 2012 season, when they won only eight games, finishing dead last in the Grossmont Hills League while failing to win a league game (0-15).
Derek Rustich, one of the senior leaders on the team, knew that he had to step up. And to this point, he has and the team has followed suit.
The Foothillers have already equaled their win total from last season under first year head coach Chad Williams, and sit at 8-2 on the year.

Rustich, a third baseman who will play for Texas Tech University in the fall, hit .354 last season to lead Grossmont. This season, he's picking up where he left off, hitting .360, with eight RBIs. He smacked a two-run homer on Friday in a 15-0 win over Santana.
