Successful, famous or notorious, these alumni gave Grossmont High School even more Foothillers to crow about.

Maybe they sat next to you in biology, or you saw them every Friday night at the football game.  Or perhaps they were quiet, reserved and virtually unknown until graduation led them down the path to distinction.  Do you have an “I knew them way back when” story about these five notable grads?  Share them in the comments section below. 

  • David Leisure, class of 1968

The actor is best known for his role as cruise ship captain/lothario Charley Dietz on the early 1990s TV show Empty Nest, as well as his long stint as Isuzu’s commercial spokesman Joe Isuzu.

  • Gregory R. Bryant, class of 1968

As rear admiral of the United States Navy, RDML Bryant earned several recognitions and awards, including the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal.

  • Ellen Ochoa, class of 1975

Ochoa’s first mission with NASA, a nine-day jaunt aboard the shuttle Discovery in 1993, marked the first time a Hispanic woman went into space. 

  • Jimmy LaValle, class of 1996

Electronica musician LaValle is a member of the band The Album Leaf, which has produced five albums and whose music has been featured in several commercials, TV shows and movies.

  • Kevin Correia, class of 1998

The Major League Baseball pitcher was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2002, traded to the Padres in 2009, and has been playing with the Pittsburgh Pirates since 2010.
