Who’s Who at Your Child’s School

New Justin Beiber backpack? Check. Three-ring binder with color-coded subject separators? Check. Zip-up pouch filled with pencils, pens, erasers, a ruler and other essentials? Check. E-mail address of your child’s principal? Wait, what?
It might seem inconsequential, but the contact information of important personnel at your child’s school is one thing parents shouldn’t leave off their back-to-school lists. From questions about school policy to behavioral issues to concerns about medication, having the e-mail addresses of the principal, counselor/psychologist, health technician and others handy can be beneficial to both sides by keeping the channels of communication open.
Of course, parents can get in touch with personnel by calling the school’s direct line, but if you’ve ever been in a school office during the day—a blur of attendance sheets, delivered notes and bloody noses—you’ll understand why e-mailing is more convenient for all concerned.
