Grossmont High School’s Naval Junior ROTC battalion took a big step toward its goal of buying all 50 state flags when it got a check for $1,000 from Viejas Enterprises, parent of the Indian casino and outlet mall.

Robert Scheid, Viejas Enterprises public relations director, last week presented the donation to Robin Schweitzer of the Grossmont High School NJROTC Booster Club.

“The flags will be used for parades, marching ceremonies and designated high school events,” said Clark Owsley, Senior Naval Science instructor
at Grossmont.

The school battalion’s commanding officer is Cadet Cmdr. Brandon Yarbrough and its operations officer is Cadet Lt. Tia Wilson.

In a donation ceremony Oct. 13 at the Viejas Community Relations building, the booster club thanked Viejas for its support of Grossmont High School and Grossmont NJROTC.
