Sprites Revolution Is Theme of Mother-Daughter Service Group Event in March

Sprites of East County, a mother-daughter philanthropic group with close to 20 La Mesa members, will host its annual benefit March 24 at Steele Canyon High School in Rancho San Diego. 

The theme is Sprites Revolution.

Founded in 1968, Sprites is a nonprofit made up of 240 mothers and their seventh- to 12th-grade daughters who live in the area served by the Grossmont Union High School District.  

The group provides college scholarships to girls who help in neighborhoods,   providing meals to the hungry, companionship and assistance to the elderly, care for children and donation of gifts to help people so that they can have a happier holiday.

Sprites mothers and daughters work more than 5,000 volunteer hours each year.

The annual benefit will include a silent auction, fashion show featuring apparel from Fashion Valley stores, dance performances and a catered lunch. All proceeds benefit Sprites charities.

Sprites now attending Parkway Middle School—and going to Grossmont High School in the fall—are Angela Ferrantello, Tatum Holder, Marissa Martinez, Kayla Peters and Carissa Towne.

Freshmen Sprites at Grossmont High School this year are Ali Azevedo, Nicole Laethem, Sierra Orsinelli-Rivers and Aspen Waring. 

Sophomore Sprites at Grossomont are Victoria Comito, Maria Gargano, Marisa Herrera, Leslie Sorenson and Kaylie York.  Juniors at Grossmont include Olivia Meek and Vanessa Shevlin.

One of the graduating Sprites seniors is Sophie Sirois of Grossmont.

Karen Butsko, publicity chair for the group, said no Sprites attend Helix Charter High School.
