Sonoma Valley High School Principal Resigns

Dino Battaglini's resignation is effective June 2013 and he is taking a leave of absence until then.

Principal of Sonoma Valley High School Dino Battaglini resigned at the school board meeting Jan. 17. His resignation is effective June 30, 2013. The Board granted him a leave of absence until that date, according to a news release issued by Sonoma Valley School District.

The district has declined to state a reason for Battaglini's departure. He was not available by phone when Patch attempted to reach him at home.

Battaglini had been principal of the school since July 2010.

Lynn Fitzpatrick is acting as Interim Principal. Fitzpatrick has been Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

"The district appreciates Dino's contributions and wishes him well in his future endeavors," the news release stated.

The district will begin the search for a new principal, with a goal of identifying the person before the end of the school year.

"The District is optimistic that Sonoma Valley will attract quality candidates with the expertise and experience to lead Sonoma Valley High School's pursuit of college and career readiness for all students," according to the news release.

I agree with you that the public has a right to know the reason, as is evident by my attempt to find out the reason from the school district and the man himself. I appreciate your comment. Other readers have also expressed a desire to know. I left a message for Dino on his voicemail. Perhaps information will be forthcoming. Rest assured that I did not just receive this news release without inquiring further.

It's possible something is being kept secret for less-than-appropriate reasons, but it's also possible the man has something personal happening in his life that is no one's business - I don't know him or anything about him, I just know sometimes people in the public eye go through things that aren't appropriate to share or that they aren't ready to share, things such as a cancer diagnosis or a divorce. Just noting the possibility that nothing sinister is going on, but I have no idea.

Dino loved his job and mostly loved these kids-this school district did the same thing to the last principal-forced to resign-until the parents demanded that she be reinstated at a board meeting. Now we are paying two principals a pretty large sum of money when janitors have lost their jobs-transparency??? It will never happen unless parents demand it! Mr. Battaglini did not want to leave his job he was forced to resign and no one knew nothing.

Yes, thank you for raising this Jennifer. This is always a possibility of course.

Here is a true story about Mr. Dino! When he was the principal and Antioch high school, he got involved with a group of kids who simply did not give a crap about their future, grades or life in general. Dino jumped on board and help all and I mean ALL these students to turn their lives around-get a great GPA and for doing so-he treated them to a day at ATT park and held up a sign stating how these students turned their lives around. And this is a man that was FORCED to resign. REALLY? Very sad loss for the kids at Sonoma High.
