Scott Sisters Lead Helix Over Kearny High School in CIF Basketball Opener

Kimberly Scott sinks six three-pointers in pacing Highlanders with 27 points against the visiting Komets from San Diego. Scotties advance to Friday's Division II quarterfinals.

Helix Charter High School’s girls took advantage of 38 Kearny High turnovers and cruised to an easy 78-42 victory in the first round of CIF San Diego section basketball action Tuesday night at the Scotties’ gym. The Highlanders led 21-12 after the first period and 34-25 at the half before blowing the game wide open in the second half. Leading scorer was Kim Scott, whose 27 points included six three-ponters. Sister Kris followed with 11 points, and Jasmine Hunn scored 8 while collecting a team-high 15 rebounds. Dean Brunson’s team—cheered by men’s coach John Singer and members of his boys team, which plays Wednesday—boosted its record to 14-10 and will vie in the quarterfinals Friday.
