Santana Swats Down Grossmont in Second Half for Hoops Victory

Kayti Grable leads Sultans, who improve record to 7-9 with fast start and finish against the Hillers.

Santana High School held host Grossmont to 9 points in the second half (and only 2 points in the third period) to prevail 34-28 on Monday night before a sparse crowd in the new gym. About 50 Foothillers fans saw Kayti Grable score 14 points to lead the Sultans, followed by Haley Burton’s 10.

Danielle Dahle led Grossmont (2-12) with 13 points. No other Hiller scored more than 4 points for first-year coach Jeff Bickford, who used to coach at Santana and El Capitan.  The Sultans (7-9) sprinted to a first-period lead of 17-5, but the Hillers came back to lead 19-16 at halftime.

Santana will host Granite Hills at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and Grossmont travels to El Capitan the same day—where Bickford coached a year ago.
