Santa Baby, Yeah: Foothiller Choirs Show Range at Winter Concert

Grossmont High School singers race from 12th century to the 20th at packed Fletcher Hills church.

“The many moods of Christmas” was the theme for Monday night’s winter concert of the Grossmont High School Choral Music Department, including the famed Red Robe Choir. And the Hillers delivered.

Under the direction of Dr. Edwin Basilio, about 20 pieces were performed—from 12th century classics to Santa Baby, originally recorded by Eartha Kitt in 1953.

Marilyn White was on the piano Monday night backing up the Choir, Advanced Ensemble and Women's Ensemble—with 48, 29 and 41 members, respectively.

Fletcher Hills Presbyterian Church again donated its sanctuary—packed with parents, friends and even Councilman Mark Arapostathis, who rushed from a Peter Pan Junior Theater rehearsal to see two dozen of his theater alumni sing.

Laura Erath and Bobby Weiss performed The Prayer in the original Italian as the adult Festival Strings & Orchestra provided accompaniment.  Later, student Adam Davis played violin, Jake Herrod was featured on organ and Clay Wilson played a conga drum on percussion.
