Roger Fong, Ryan Chau of Helix Upset Top Doubles Teams for League Title

Grossmont, Granite Hills and Steele Canyon duos fell to Highlander senior and sophomore over the past week.

Despite being third-seeded, the Helix Charter High School doubles team of senior Roger Fong and sophomoe Ryan Chau won a Grossmont Hills League tennis title Friday by defeating the top-seeded Steele Canyon duo of Kolegraff-Sirkis 6-2, 6-2 at the Sycuan Tennis Club.

Earlier in the week, victories came over Grossmont High’s Mason-Reuss 6-0, 6-1, and after a day of rain Granite Hills’  McCormick-Ming 6-2, 7-5 and second-seeded Barraclough-Graff of Steele Canyon 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinal.

Coach Jay Diaz of Helix says his players worked hard to get to this point this season after coming in second last year to a strong Valhalla team.
