Ripberger's 2 Goals Lead Grossmont Past Helix in Lacrosse Semifinals

Hillers advance to league title game Saturday against visiting Granite Hills High School.

Grossmont High School slipped past visiting Helix 5-4 Thursday night to advance to the Grossmont Hills League title game in boys lacrosse.

After having a bye in the first round, the Hillers hosted the Scotties in a semifinal  that devolved into a frenetic shooting match that had Grossmont ahead 3-2 at the half, the Scotties netting two and tying the game 4-4 and the Hillers driving one in the net in the final minutes to advance to the finals Saturday.

Grossmont will host Granite Hills at 7 p.m. while Helix will face El Capitan, vying for the third and fourth spots. Junior varsity finals precede that game at 5 p.m.

Leading the Foothillers were Thomas Ripberger, with two goals, and Eric Cranston-Ramirez, Hunter Jones and Dustin Spencer-Bacon, with one apiece. For the Highlanders, the scorers were Alex Lecko, Josh Forbes, Tyler Dennis and Peter Brandt.
