Poway Beats Grossmont to Advance to CIF Softball Final—Against Grossmont

Foothillers later beat Rancho Bernardo to qualify for title game against Titans on Saturday at UCSD.

Poway pitcher Alayna Brenman threw a three-hitter to lead the Titans past Grossmont High School 2-0 Thursday afternoon at the Poway Sportsplex. But in the double-elimination CIF San Diego softball tournament, the Hillers got another chance to stay alive. They did so in the nightcap by beating Rancho Bernardo 7-4 and qualifying for the Division I title game at 7 p.m. Saturday at UCSD—against the Titans coached by Jim Bennet.

Poway (25-6) got a double from Kathryn Duran, a hit and RBI from Ashley Andruski and two hits and an RBI from Chase Snell.  Also getting hits were Nichole Johnson, Stephanie Rocco  and Haley Steele.  Grossmont's hits—all singles—came from Amanda Porter, Kaitlyn Nicks and Megan Crisci.
