Photo Gallery: Dr. Seuss Day at Murdock Elementary

Students were treated to a surprise visit from The Cat in the Hat himself.

On Wednesday, students at Murdock Elementary – like many others nationwide – participated in Read Across America Day, an initiative to help teach the value of reading to our young people.

Each year, the event coincides with the birthday of San Diego’s own legendary children’s book writer, Theodore Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. As part of the celebration, students dressed as their favorite Dr. Seuss character, sang Happy Birthday to Dr. Seuss, and listened to librarian Carrie Wood read Seuss’ legendary story The Cat in the Hat, all while getting a surprise visit from-you guessed it-The Cat in the Hat.

Additionally, the entire school participated in Read Across America day by setting aside 15 minutes to read (including teachers), and later the kindergarteners participated in a Dr. Seuss parade.
