Perfecto! Grossmont Freshmen Finish 26-0 Season With League Title
Hillers hold off Granite Hills High School 3-2 at Gizoni Field behind the relief work of Trevor Chapman.
Grossmont High School achieved a rarity in prep sports Saturday—a perfect season. The Foothillers’ freshman baseball team coached by Ryan Ewin won the Grossmont Hills League title by beating Granite Hills 3-2. The Hillers’ record rose to 26-0, behind the strong arm of reliever Trevor Chapman. Brandon Brown scored two of the runs and Hunter Reed the other. Granite Hills ended with six hits, and Grossmont five in the game at Gizoni Field.
JT Barnes had two RBI and  Matt Winet one. The Eagles scored two runs in the third inning to tie it up, but in the bottom of that inning, the Hillers scored the decisive run. After a start by Brandon Weed, Chapman took the mound in the fourth inning and held them scoreless the rest of the game.
“We have a winning tradition at this school,” Ewin said. “We are expected to win. And [his team] came out and worked extremely hard. This is a very special team. It looks good for the future of Grossmont baseball.”
