Mount Miguel's Joanna Gonzalez Wins Top Prize in Ethics Essay Contest

Mount Miguel's Kevin Gonzalez finished third, and Grossmont's Kyleigh Sullivan finished fourth.

Joanna Gonzalez, a junior at Mount Miguel High School, was awarded $500 for her classroom by the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce on Friday.

Gonzalez won first place in an essay contest on the topic of business ethics, as part of the Chamber's Ethics in Business Conference. The contest was open to all students who participated in the conference.

Thanks to the generosity of the San Diego East County Chamber membership, five cash prizes were awarded, including $500 for the first place student’s classroom, $300 for the first place student, $100 for second place, and $50 each for third and fourth place students.

The student winners include:

  • First Place: Joanna Gonzalez (Mount Miguel High School)
  • Second Place: Ryan Deyling (Foothills Christian High School)
  • Third Place: Kevin Gonzales (Mount Miguel High School)
  • Fourth Place: Kyleigh Sullivan (Grossmont High School)

Miss Gonzalez and her parents, along with Vice Principal Jay Guerra, and teacher Jason Babineau were picked up at Mount Miguel High School in a limo and driven to the breakfast, where she read her essay to the Chamber members.
