Monte Vista Educator a Nominee for San Diego County Teacher of the Year

Saturday Oct. 1, dozens of teachers from across San Diego County attended the 20th annual "Cox Presents: A Salute To Teachers" at the Balboa Theatre. One of those nominated five 2011 Teacher of the Year awards was Paula Delgado of .

Delgado works in the Science Department at Monte Vista, and teaches the Oceanography course, as well as Anatomy & Physiology. She and El Capitan teacher Sandra Galea-Martinez were representatives from the Grossmont Union High School District.

The five teachers who took home "Teacher of the Year" awards are:

  • Yolanda Sherard, who teaches US History to 8th graders at Rancho del Rey Middle School in the Sweetwater Union High School District;
  • Jo-Ann Fox, who teaches 2nd graders at Reidy Creek School in the Escondido Union School District;
  • Mark Burroughs, who teaches 5th graders at San Pasqual School in the tiny San Pasqual Union School District;
  • Mark Alcorn, who teaches 5th graders at Lee Elementary School in the San Diego Unified School District;
  • Alicia McBride, who teaches Language Arts, History, and Personal Development at the Reflections program which is part of the County Office of Education´s Juvenile Court and Community Schools system
